About Hagstrom

For nearly 100 years, Hagstrom Map has provided customers with a broad range of the most up-to-date maps in the New York tri-state area. When you need to figure out how to get from the airport to midtown, which trains will take you to Central Park, or where to pick up the Staten Island Ferry, a Hagstrom map can be trusted to get you where you need to go. The dependability of Hagstrom's obsessively updated cartography has made us the #1 brand in the New York region.

Our legacy began in 1816 when Andrew Hagstrom opened a drafting business in lower Manhattan. When people had trouble finding Hagstrom's new office, he produced a simple map to guide them. This first map was a true innovation, featuring small blocks, wide streets, addresses and transportation lines, all clearly outlined and neatly printed. Soon these maps were sold in stationery stores and at newsstands, leading Hagstrom to expand his area of focus and create a complete map of Manhattan. With this map, Hagstrom Map was born.

Within 10 years, Andrew Hagstrom was dubbed "Dean of Mapmakers", and developed maps of all 5 New York City boroughs, followed by surrounding towns, cities and counties, until his line of products contained over 100 maps. Hagstrom's innovative spirit led him to be the first to map New York's Rapid Transit System, including every subway and elevated station. Legend says he knew every avenue, street, road, drive and alley by heart.

Today Hagstrom resides under the Langenscheidt Publishing Group, allowing Hagstrom to expand its title list even further through the resources of Langenscheidt, the largest map, guidebook and language publisher in the world, housing such illustrious brands as Berlitz Publishing, American Map Corporation, ADC Map and Insight Guides, each a formidable market leader in its respective regions. Hagstrom Map continues to provide expert coverage of the New York tri-state area including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and boasts many bestselling map and atlas products such as the popular New York City 5-Borough Street Atlas which has sold millions of copies to date. Hagstrom continues to produce groundbreaking designs to fit the needs of the many people traveling in and out of the New York area every day.
